Scholarship winner announced

We are excited to announce that Chloe Hogue was named Women of Magnitude Express Network’s Impact Scholarship recipient. She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall to study nursing. Chloe writes:

Throughout my life, I have been balancing academics, athletics, and extracurriculars. I believe that being involved in these activities has encouraged me to grow personally and taught me how to manage my time well. My experience in school and sports has taught me how to work as a team and be a positive role model to those around me. I want to encourage others, such as my friends and family so that they can achieve their goals. Just as I am trying to encourage those around me, they also encourage me in my career and future endeavors. In the fall of 2023, I plan to attend Indiana Wesleyan University.

While attending Indiana Wesleyan University I hope to achieve and gain many things. My main reason for going to college is to graduate from college with a bachelor's degree in Nursing. After that, I plan to work as a registered nurse for a few years and eventually return to school to earn a master's degree. From college at Indiana Wesleyan University, I hope to gain knowledge about my career field and skills to use in that specific field. I also hope to gain a strong sense of community from the school. I will be swimming competitively on the swim team at Indiana Wesleyan University while I am attending school there. I hope to learn new and important life skills from the women on the team. I hope to advance my athletic success as well.

Continuing my education in college is important for me to be able to pursue a career in a health-related field. I want to work one on one with people and help them to feel supported. It is rewarding to me to see people recover and heal from sickness and injuries. If I did not continue my education then I simply would not be able to work in the nursing field. I also want to learn more about human health just because I enjoy learning about biology and science. I decided to pursue nursing when I realized my love for helping people around me. Nursing is a work of the heart. I am very thankful for the people who have supported me so far in my future and major decisions. I am excited to have new experiences, further my education, and work in health care. A few academic achievements I have received are becoming a member of the National Honor Society, maintaining an average GPA of 3.80, and receiving Honor Roll. I also have experience being involved in Student Government. Freshman year, I was class treasurer, and junior year, I was class president. At my high school graduation, I will be awarded the Medal of Honor for my graduating class.

Throughout my life I have been involved in a variety of activities and athletics. Through these activities I have learned to manage my time better and maintain strong academics. My swimming career began when I participated in swim lessons at the age of five, and by the time I was six years old I was swimming competitively. Since then, I have been involved with three different club teams and have swum under Summit City Aquatics for the last four years. Some of my most memorable achievements include placing third and fourth individually in butterfly events at the Age Group State Championship Meet. Another memorable highlight happened when my 200 freestyle relay won at the state meet when I was 14 years old. In 2016, I had the opportunity to swim for Team Indiana at the regional “MegaZone” meet. Ever since I was 12 years old, I have achieved qualifying times for the annual state championships. This year will be my last opportunity to compete as a high schooler at this meet. Cross Country and Track have also been large parts of my life since middle school. My mother encouraged me to start running in sixth grade. I joined the cross country team while I was in middle school at Leo Elementary.

Unlike swimming, cross country was more of a team effort, and I really enjoyed that aspect. I continued cross country and began running on the track and field team the year after. That year, I was a part of the varsity team that qualified to run at the cross country state meet. The following spring, I ran with my 4x800 meter relay team at state at the end of the track season. The next year, I transferred from Leo to Blackhawk Christian School. From that point on I competed yearly in both cross country and track. My last season of track has just begun. Highlights of my running career at Blackhawk Christian include four-time individual regional qualifier in cross country, two-time semi-state individual qualifier, 800 meter run individual regional qualifier, four time varsity letter earner, and five new school records. I also earned All State Honorable Mention in 2022.

Last year, I received an award called “The 2022 Beyond the Game Leadership Award.” Outside of sports, I balance my time between working, interning, and volunteering. As I already mentioned above, I intern at The Hope Center. In addition, I work part-time at Giordano's, and previously worked as a lifeguard for the past three summers, working up to an assistant manager position. At my church, I volunteer by singing for the worship team, and teaching Jr. Worship classes. Last year, I had the opportunity to volunteer tutoring sixth grade math. For the past four summers, I have been a prep team coach and volunteered to teach swim lessons. I love working with kids and helping people.
