October: From the President
It is almost time for the most thankful month of the year. We should do this all year long, but it seems that November is a time I find for reflection and all I have to be thankful for. I feel a lot of people focus on the negative aspects of their life before the positive. I consider myself a very positive person. I have a relative (not mentioning any names…lol) that is always so negative. I spent some time with her this summer for various family functions and was really working with her on being more positive. I will say, that while I was with her, she did try!!
We should be grateful for even the simplest of things we have, like clean water, fresh air, and a bed to sleep in. Gratitude can mean different things to each of us. I hope everyone takes time each day to focus on the positive things you have in your life. You never know what tomorrow will bring and what new challenges may arise.
A close friend of mine has a daughter who just turned 30. A week after her birthday, she had some blood tests taken because of some unexplained bruising she had. Unfortunately, the results came back that she has leukemia. She’s only 30 years old with a 2-year-old daughter. She is now in the hospital for the next 4 weeks for chemotherapy. I do not tell this story to make everyone sad, but instead to make every day count. I need to take my own advice as well. It’s not always easy with the demands of our careers and taking care of everyone at home. So, my challenge to all of us – live each day to the fullest and have fun in whatever you do!
Be kind
Be thoughtful
Be genuine
but most of all be thankful
